Lower tax, nicer drive and the right way to recycle a leaf

Post blatantly nicked from another forum.

Fiachra took the electrics of a Nissan Leaf and installed it in his beloved ’93 Audi 80 Avant 2.0l 16v.

My old Mk1 1978 VW Scirocco GT will go the same way eventually. EV batteries have gone way up in price over the last few years, but funnily enough, an oul' Leaf can be got for like 3500-4500 EUR now. And while it's a soul lacking vehicle .... the above most certainly is the perfect way to recycle it to something, that's fun.

Also, if this has sparked your interest, have a look at Damien Maguires YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/evbmw . Damien has in the last decade converted several cars to electric. Mostly BMWs, but recently also a Range Rover P38 and I believe, he's also had his fingers in a RX8.

120 quid/year tax in something classic, but not vintage yet. Economically to run. And speedy, too. With a range far enough for most peoples daily commute. Just lacking the engine sound, but that could be fixed by other means

I'm driving my first ever hybrid now and tax beside petrol consumption is the only better thing about it comparing to full petrol car. 190 a year comparing to 422 for 3 months is a big different. But from day 1 i miss sound, i miss rumble of 3.0 V6 which is now collecting dust and hipefully will get back to live as a weekend car as soon as i save a bit .

Yes ... that 5, 6 or 8 pot sound ... that will be something we're going to miss.
