As far as I know Mercedes will fix it no questions asked and it seems to be a common issue. I guess it was a manufacturing fault and they’re owning up to it. I think it’s only on some model years.

Good to know - thanks. I nearly went to look at one in a dealer a few weeks ago, but left it sit to see if it'd still be there after Christmas. I'm in no rush.
Not one buying guide I read mentioned that on the 212! And I read 4-5 buyer's guides online. I suppose owners forums are ultimately the font of knowledge required, but they can often be plagued with an over abundance of bad news and horror stories which skew things.

I have a towbar so the impact was transmitted directly to the chassis.
Let's see how it goes?
I've decided to go through my Insurance broker. The incident will be properly recorded and properly processed.

Now they certainly can. Very good times over there at present, as with any country sitting on hydrocarbons.
But not so good for the consumers.

Once everyone was alright is the main thing, annoying as it is, at least bent metal/plastic can
usually be easily fixed, hopefully.

Good luck when that discount expires, that's another 33% you can look forward to. Mine expired last month or something so it's pretty nice now when the electricity bill shows up.
I was talking to someone yesterday who can't afford electricity and heating at present. I wonder [quietly] when the riots will start.
