The World Cup and, yet again, the ubiquitous "pundit" and "co-commentator" pollute our TVs, with 99.9% of them spouting pure and utter bilge. They haven't a clue what they are saying. It's clear that intelligence is in short supply and being a good player does not qualify one to be a pundit.
I'm talking about you, Martin Keown, Robbie Savage, Ray Houghton, Ronnie Whelan, Jermaine Jenas............... (the list goes on and on) 🤦

Not a fan of the old soccerball or pretty much most sports that don't involve a motor or at least wheels, but it's the punditry that used to do my head in back in the bad old days when broadcast TV was the main option rather than just turning to Netflix/Disney+/Youtube instead.

World cup or Euros would roll round and it'd be bad enough the schedules being jammed up for an hour and half, but y'know fine, enjoy your games, but do we really need another 30 mins to an hour of a few old blowhards round a table and some interviews with people who have never held a normal job in their life?

I think it’s fair to rant about how football is taking over TV seeing as Ireland isn’t even in the tournament. It’s a bit like covering the ice hockey world championship for like 5h a day except I’m fairly sure that’s not a mega corrupt event. I think my €180 could be spent better than on lowlives like FIFA tbh and on hours of pointless pre and post match analysis.

Do a proper investigation and analysis into something that’s actually important, how about that? That could be worth paying for. Mind you, that would involve annoying the people paying the subsidies so perhaps easier to just show football.

Skateboarding in the Oympics.
It's degrading and reduces skateboarding to the level of a sport. Which these days means a device to extract money from TV watchers and funnel it to large corporations.

Witnessed similar cnuts with ill intent driving around in a white van, "Toyota Parts" written on the sides just like the legitimate Toyota business vans today. Driver asks "Hey mister, any metal in that skip" we were parked beside. Colleague replied he didn't know anything about it. More polite than I would have been.

The greater slight than the commercial is being lumped into the olympics , the greatest farce in fairness being your best .
Come to think of it, they’ve even managed to commercialise and deface K2 , up until very very recently the numbers who made the trip and lived to tell the tale were counted in dozens, it’s grim…

I think it says everything about the state of modern sport when a formerly outsider, mildly outlaw counterculture thing like skateboarding is seen as less respectable by being associated with the IOC.

It's hard to think of a sporting body of late that hasn't been dragged in the mud in terms of corruption, abuse and cheating. Once money comes into it, it sort of goes to hell. I'm not sure if there's a governing body for tiddlywinks, but if there is, thete's probably a weighted discs fiasco or something.

Careful now! The only section of society that we can’t comment on without being accused of all sorts. I feel sorry for the Garda trying to deal with them.

I didn't say it was but this is a rant thread and I'm entitled to my opinion. Is my rant any less relevant to any of the others here? I don't think so.
If you were on the receiving end of their entrepreneurial skills you would have a similar opinion to mine.
