  • Rip-off Ireland is creeping back in. I thought online retail had dealt with a lot of the gouging but clearly not in some places. Brita water filters are 6 for - wait for it - €46 in my local Dunnes and £21 on Amazon.

    • Yep, here is an article "Irish shoppers pay up to 70% more than UK for Irish goods"

Dunnes have always been a rip, they're under the deluded belief that they're a high end supermarket simply by virtue of being Irish, but are often sub-Lidl products at Marks and Sparks prices. Super-Valu labour under the exact same delusion.

        • The obsession with putting little hedges in car parks in business park and shopping centre car parking.

Yes, it looks nice, but it's awful for visibility in a space where there's likely to be cyclists, pedestrians and the sort of people who would hold you up on a nice road but gottagofast in a car park..

              • Actual ones. Nearly everybody you see driving one has a phone stuck to their ear.

Does it matter? the real problem is they're distracted by a phone conversation, not that that they're holding a phone. The only difference is Gardai can do you for holding a phone, hands free doesn't really reduce the risk like people think it does.

                      • My 1.4 Fiat bravo has a factory LPG system, which is grand. There's three little bars beside the fuel gauge to tell me how much LPG I have, grand. There is no light, like a low fuel light, to let me know when I'm running low on gas though. Guess what the geniuses in Fiat decided to use instead?

                        The EML

The EML comes in to tell me I'm low on LPG

No message, nothing. Just the EML

Not ideal when you're 900km from home on a motorway in Switzerland

There's a contractor over the road from me and a few weeks ago one of their drivers was driving along the main road when he wasn't paying attention (on the phone) and so went off the road and hit a tree.

Tractor split in two, tractor written off.
It was only about a year old and hadn't even had its first service yet.

                          Only cost about €150k.

                          Expensive phone call/snapchat.

The tractors have them for the radio alright, only issue is nobody will ever hear your conversation in a tractor over handsfree

                            • Daft idea, but why don't tractors just have motorcycle/aircraft style comms headsets?

If they're that noisy, you should be wearing ear defenders anyway.

                              • Modern tractors are not noisy. They have speakers with a radio so if you can hear the radio you can hear phone conversation over speakers for sure. What is even more surprising is seeing modern Mercedes or Audi's drivers holding phone to their ear... like seriously how!
