As far as I know Mercedes will fix it no questions asked and it seems to be a common issue. I guess it was a manufacturing fault and theyโre owning up to it. I think itโs only on some model years.

Good to know - thanks. I nearly went to look at one in a dealer a few weeks ago, but left it sit to see if it'd still be there after Christmas. I'm in no rush.
Not one buying guide I read mentioned that on the 212! And I read 4-5 buyer's guides online. I suppose owners forums are ultimately the font of knowledge required, but they can often be plagued with an over abundance of bad news and horror stories which skew things.
