  • Funerals are one of the last things I’d ease up on , tough as it is for those involved.
The only but quite serious Uk variant cluster we’ve had over here was from a funeral before Christmas .

There are some things associated with Irish funerals that just do not lend themselves to controlling a now very transmissible virus .
    Calling to the house
    Drink
    People forget themselves
People travel long distances to attend
    SHAKING HANDS.....

I don’t think our experience is unique across the country.
It might actually be a small blessing from covid if some of the false compassion , ie modding the poor grieving family immediately as they exit the church in floods of tears..,,,,,, so they can fcuk off and get on with their day!

It would be ideal if it was gone so that the checkpoint on my way to do shopping wasn’t there.

That and the main road into cork, a dual carriageway is closed at the glanmire exit and all the traffic is failed back for close to a kilometre. It’s just a pain in the arse. As I mentioned earlier on then the level of unsavoury characters has doubled and trebled in the city and they do SFA about that.

Problem with this Foyler like a lot of things with this pandemic, is that the majority of people who would be sensible are horribly affected by this, while those amongst us that dont give a fvck about any laws will just ignore it and have 300 person pi$$ups with all their extended family from overseas at it too. So whats the point?

In case it wasn’t abundantly clear, my comment was about the complete and total stupidity of suggesting to change it from 5 to 10km. Obviously getting rid of the restriction entirely is a given.

          • a slight increase would be an insult alright. apparently one option is an increase to 8km.. the mind boggles

There is that, but also having been at a few funerals in the last few months at different levels , I think the risk is more that folks who have been very good and diligent forget themselves in the moment.
We were gathered outside the church at two in the last few months and at the first I watched my bro head over to the family and go along the line offering condolences and yes shake hands ....
I asked him what he was at and did he realise he had in essence just Shaken hands with about 100 people and if the first one had covid , a good bunch of the 100 were now at risk.

He said he felt awkward as you do and just went with the usual respectful option.
A good older friend passed and I’d have huge time for him and his wife.
I knew if I went anywhere near her, she or I would have launched into a big hug, so I stayed back and a few weeks later wrote a letter to her, not great but what can you do.

I ain’t professing to be a lockdown saint in any way , shape or form and have bent the rules like most but do try and avoid situations where common sense is tricky to maintain.
So it’s not just the hire a marquee for 300 that are the problem.

It definitely would have helped if I'd read your accompanying text above the image! Cheers.
