  • Really should the thread be kicking off, have to admit Sir I don't study the graphs that closely but daily numbers means fupp all at this stage, by and large kids getting covid means fupp all, yeah we haven't huge capacity in the hospitals but plus ca change there, if anything its another fcuking excuse for the HSE as to why they still aren't even looking remotely like getting their :D:D:D:D together.
I'd say they decided to keep doing the daily scare the herd thing to take the attention off where it would be better spent on slainte , the kids hospital and many other more urgent issues.

I'm going to throw this up again because what a difference a day makes.
I honestly believe that the general population coildnt give a fvck at this stage. I am increasingly the only person wearing a mask, I'm still using the alcohol hand sprays etc.
I'm out on the road and making several stops at several premises dailey and the o ly place I see full compliance is the builders providers. I was the AIB last week and although the porter was trying hard to control people, 6 in branch at once etc, people didnt really give a fvck.
I think complacency has set in big time.

The results came back positive Late the next day. We were contacted by the hse the following morning to go through close contacts, we told the tracer our daughter was in school all week, they said they don't contact the school anymore, that there is some portal schools can check to see if there has been positive cases in their school.

We decided to contact the school directly to let them know our daughter had tested positive, only to find out another two pupils sitting at my daughters table had tested positive the previous week and there wasn't a single mention of it to us, I was absolutely funming.

Also when the contact tracer was organising tests for us, initially they were only going to send our other two daughters for tests as my partner and myself were vaccinated and had no symptoms. so we lied and told her that we had sore throats in order to get a test. We all went for tests and got our results the next day, low and behold everyone except myself came back positive.

So we went through all the contact tracing again for everyone. At the end I asked them how long do I need to isolate for and they told me I don't need to isolate as I'm negative and have no symptoms. I couldn't believe it, even though I was living in a house with 4 other people all of whom have covid, I was free to go about my normal business, they said yes just make sure you wear your mask and sanitise your hands more often.

Lucky I informed work of the situation and they agreed it was best I stayed out until it was safe to return.

No wonder the numbers are back up, what did they think was going to happen when they stopped contact tracing for close contacts in schools. the whole thing has turned into a shambles

That is pretty shocking reading that.

It looks like the powers that be and the system has just given up and put their
fingers in their ears and buried their heads.

How is the way you and your family been handled going to help reducing the spread if they
knew there was positive cases but yet you and other parents weren't told about the children in
          the same class getting Covid?

Alan, do you reckon the contract tracing was followed up on and the people who you told them about
          were contacted?

If this is the broad level of action or inaction now, it's no wonder Covid is spreading quickly again.

          • Yeah they contacted anyone else who was a close contact, luckily outside of school she didn't have many close contacts other than ourselves and our parents. But had she not developed any symptoms that would have been a different story.

Whatever about stopping contact tracing in primary schools. A simple text to inform the parents there has been a positive case in their child's class would go a long way, at least then people could excersise a bit more caution.

Anyway I suspect after the outbreak at that school up in wexford, they will go back to contact tracing in primary schools. And part of me is glad they all got it, at least now coming into winter I don't have to worry if every sniffle or cough they pick up is covid.

I don'tthink they will. They can't risk the bad optics of closing schools. They need to spport the schools as a safe place image.

                • This whole testing or tracing or not is tricky enough. If we're going back to BAU it implicitly means that we're assuming everyone will get Covid-19 at some point and we need to worry about it as much as we worry about flu or used to worry about flu at least. As in, not a whole lot. So if a kid gets Covid-19 along with the rest of the class and parents get it etc then that's how it is. There was obviously some dose of something going around like a month ago that a lot of people got. With typical cold/flu like symptoms. My entire family had it over a period of a couple of weeks with much coughing etc. I know many others had it also. I guess that's how it is normally and particularly at this time of year.

So some countries have clearly taken this view and some are even going to stop testing soon enough unless you show up in hospital. I guess in Ireland we're not going back to BAU so we will continue to test & trace it seems and actually maintain all current restrictions. It then becomes a question of if people are going to bother with any of it. Some are and some are not. We'll see how the winter goes. Maybe Covid-19 will come back in the countries with BAU but if it doesn't by around Christmas then you can probably start to wonder if Ireland really needs to continue to obsess about it.

                  • I got the chance to ask some questions to people in the know this morning.

I'm told it's not one thing that is driving increased hospitalisation and increased concern, but bunch of factors all having a small impact. Waning efficacy is a small but significant contributor as are pockets of unvaccinated people increasing social contats. There is some more transmission driven by people having more social contacts on average, as well as less compliance with measures. There's lower compliance with vaccine certs according to our research (and you all know it).

On hospitals I'm told there has been a huge increase in people presenting to EDs with ICU level symptoms and no positive test - people are doing nothing until they're very sick.

Also some worrying indicators not in general circulation like he fact that ambulance callouts have increased very substantively in past month especially in the West - alcohol and socialisation is one factor in these. Events such as the Listowel races have also led to spikes.

Thats a bit mad alright, surely they'd have expected a knock on effect of increased transmission from the school if they didn't follow up with at least the other kids parents!

                          • So how do nightclubs work then LOL? Do you have to pre-book your fistfight for after, but it has to be seated in Supermacs with both of ye swinging digs while wearing masks.

                            • Well... those new guidelines are... yeah, straightforward. That's the word I was looking for.

Looks like nightclubs are like Primary Schools, magical special places where the Coronavirus knows not to spread.

                              • The wife is a school principal, she only finds out if a child has tested positive if the parents decide to tell her. To say its a nightmare of logistics and rule changes at the drop of a hat is an understatement.
