  • E=Mail from Boards.ie?

I am a member of Boards.ie but I have not used it for a long time.

Today I received an e-mail with the following heading:

    2 of 686

    [boards.ie - Now Ye're Talkin'] Congratulations! You've been promoted to Level 3.

    Inbox

I have not opened it because I'm not sure about it. Does anybody know if it's genuine or a scam?

Just throwing it out there but wouldn't Boards.ie be the place to ask.
When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command.

Very often that individual is crazy.

OP is probably asking here because boards.ie moderation has gone to s*** in past two years or so.

I’d say you’re safe enough ignoring it. Even if its some crap from boards, I’d doubt it’s anything you’ll care about. As a general rule, if you think it might be legitimate, it’s ok to open an email to check what it’s about. It can’t do anything bad by just opening it. You need to actually click on links in the email, or double-click the attachments before the next phase of the scam / phish / attack occurs.

Email is fine. Link is to your profile when you examine it. If you go to your profile you can't see anything new, not that I'd know anyway.

The new boards is a real backward step, search function is terrible and aside from mods on specific forums the general help stuff is impossible to find.

Shame really as when you filter out all the headers and madness it's a massive resource of info for so much stuff so I just check in on the niche areas that interest me. Fortunately they seem to be of no interest to the crazys.

Yeah, the motoring and cycling forums (and probably some of the other special interest forums) are still worth reading, rest of it's gone to s.hit. The lunatics really have taken over that particular asylum.

Looks like they emailed their entire userbase to see if they could drum up some curiosity. There was a thread on reddit.com/r/ireland yesterday about it. Which is ironic only because reddit essentially replace it.
If they think you're crude, go technical; if they think you're technical, go crude. I'm a very technical boy.

                    I got the same email.
Made me realise that I have not been on boards.ie in many years.
Still did not make me want to visit that place

Thanks for that Charlie. You won't believe this but I had actually tried that before I came back here. I had clicked on "about us", "contact us" and other buttons on the main page and they came back with "page not found".

I'm off to open that email now, remember me if I don't get back.

I'm starting to feel left out here. You all got emails from Boards accept me. Beginning to feel like the school playground all over again until I realised my email address is an old Eircom address.

Boards used to be very good, like 10 years ago. Got the same email just deleted it.
