It has everything I need.... and nothing more..... comfy leather seats a 6 speed box so the motorway is painful and a 70L fuel tank.

This be her parked at the Convention center in Dublin last week

Now Id love to say its been trouble free 5000 miles so far but hey she 21 years old... currently awaiting on a Wastegate actuator to resolve boost issue. And just put a brake caliper on it today.... having a firm brake peddle is over rated
And quattro for the winter months! Win win. I can't fault the M3, but in greasy weather I do miss the quattro drivetrain from time to time.

Had a similar car a few years ago. Think I picked it up for a grand. It was a lovely thing. But the valve stem seals needed to be replaced. So it drank oil like b@stard.

Yes unfortunately 4cyl petrol BMWs are pretty much always not the one to have. It’s a shed so if oil burning gets unusually high, I might increase oil grade. Although I’m quite fond of it, could look at diy valve stem seals! Thankfully a hypothetical for now.

insurance is killings old shed viability in this country now.

My best shed was in 2012 I was on the dole/studying after a year away travelling. Bought a sweet K11 Micra(1997 1.0s) for 750euros, 12,000 miles later sold it for 700 euros again. It only had two front tyres 80E, DIY oils & filter and one wheel bearing so about 250euro maintenance all in. The sills were rotted thru when i sold it on. It was still on the rod about 5yrs later with multiple owners. I loved that car

I traded up the Micra to a 600euro Almera hatch(1998 1.4s, 90PS) and sold that for about 700 with only an oil change and diy alternator change in 9months. Did a few other random DIY bits which I took of a friends parts car for beer money.

Then i broke my leg (badly) and got a 900e automatic Almera (2003 1.8 exe spec - the Renault bastardisation type ones) . I was 6 month on crutches. That was a god dam horrible car to drive and a pig on fuel. 100% reliable. The immobilizer/ECU eventually went as I was trying to sell it and out of personal sacrifice I scrapped it to save any future owner the horror of owning it.
Thats about the only car i ever lost out on tho only say 900e but I wrote that off as an additional medical expense in my head/

& thats the spirit of a daily shed.

What is the forumn the OP is refereing too ??

I bought a 318 touring e46 once for 50 quid. Needed a new indicator stalk to pass the NCT. They were good oul days. I think it continues to live on with someone on here. Sheds rock

haha brilliant! Pistonheads, the joys of running a shed the main thread is called.

Also my insurance has been super so far, but renewal time is hateful and I rarely stay with the same company.

This is my current shed. Bought about 6 months ago after my commute got a bit longer and we needed more space for the dogs. Got it for €900 and has more than paid itself off from the fuel saved vs the now weekend motor. Absolutely love the practicality of Kangoo’s. Needs an nct soon so shall see how that goes

Very practical machine. Always liked the Clio’s from this era, but never owned one!

Truckin' away in a mkV GTi. The fact that I don't have a picture of it to post up only cements its shed status! . Coming up on 250,000km now.

This is mine, Roughly owes me €2k (Excluding the wheels/tyres)

                          http://www.backroads.ie/forum/car-re...-ebay-purchase

Cruise control for long journeys, selectable 4wd for snow, no issues with flooded roads, Loads of room to move 'stuff' and tows whatever I hitch on.

Problem is iv become rather fond of it and generally try look after it rather that treat it like a shed.

I've always found myself at the shed end for daily grind stuff. Sometimes luxobarge stuff, sometimes utility stuff.
The intention for a while now has been to pick up a T5/5.1 Multivan and kit it out for continent touring duties. But with the weird market this year I held steadfast to see if values were overinflated or if it's the new norm.
So as a means of mobility I bought a smaller box on wheels last spring and it's already toured parts of Switzerland, Germany, Lichtenstein, and Austria loaded up with 2 full size bikes and all the associated accoutrements for touring around. Spent a lot of time in the mountains and just general exploring. It was a 1-owner with full service history purchase, had a lot spent on it mechanically before it was put up for sale and has been 100% reliable and ridiculously cheap to run. Fingers crossed that continues...

                                Daily since August. 3.5V6 Petrol
Needed a new mirror indicator for test (€45 from Mercedes-Benz) and then flew through first time.
Heating system is a bit drunk at times but other than that pretty much as good as it gets for a 15 yo car
