      249 gm/km CO2 won't make this a go-er for most people sadly.

How bad is it when Irish people can't have an 86 affordably? It's like an affront to our national identity.

It's definitely coming to Europe. Order books are open in a lot of EU markets.

That doesn't mean it'll make it to Ireland though I guess, or at what price given the vrt scenario...

Double it pretty much but I think like the Yaris GR, some would be willing to swallow the one-off cost for a sort of "once in a generation" kind of car, especially one only available for two years.

As much as I like the car itself, I just can't imagine many people stomaching 2350 euro road tax a year for an NA four banger in contrast to the 750 for the Yaris. That is assuming the 246 or so is the actual figure. I think the auto might fit into the 1200 euro band but that slightly defeats the point.

Actually, just had a look on Toyotas German site and it looks like its 200g/km, so 1200 a year. Not brilliant, not entirely catastrophic by Irish misery standards (and yes it feels almost stockholm syndrome saying that), but I'm not holding my breath they won't find a way to derail us even that small mercy.

Also available in Subaru, if the same but different suits, but I don’t think Yerup is getting this...

There is a poor Gt86 131 reg car locally here that has spent the bulk of its life sitting on the Toyota dealer forecourt for sale. The car seems to have had a few owners at this stage but nobody seemed to keep it long. Fair play to Toyota for still producing it but there is not much demand for a modern version of the Capri these days.

Perhaps its all the driving I do in the Landcruiser and on motorbikes but the driving position in the GT86 is like driving around in your bathtub. No elbow out the window on that car for sure.

Goodness, how big is your bathtub?

wouldn't this be nice with the yaris engine? or is there good reason why they've gone bigger capacity with it?

Not in Ireland, but there is in the rest of the world. They sold more of those forecourt sitters in the US than all Porsche models combined. Big success. Hence why they brought out a second generation of them.

Big success in Oz and New Zealand too. And presumably in Japan too.
We all stood around in a circle naked, thrusting our clinched fists in the air screaming "Jap Power!!"
