  • Bought a Classic...M535i

3500 Vitesse. Came close to buying one several times over the last few decades, and always backed away. Still feel the want.

Following on from the above post in a recent thread, I had given up trying to buy a Rover SD1. I was hoping to find a really good example of a Vitesse, and pursued the few ( what appeared to be good) cars that came up for sale over the last few months, but with no success.
Searching into the MOT history can reveal a lot, and two of the cars I was interested in failed more MOT tests than they passed, with failure lists sometimes stretching to eight or nine issues, often including corrosion.
What appeared to be the best car I came across over the last 4 months, a black Vitesse twin plenum, sold before I could get time to look.
There is one other that looks promising coming up for auction in a few weeks, but zooming in on the pictures raised a few concerns, and after calling the auction house to request more info gave me no help, I have decided not to bother with the pursuit.
There were a few other cars I considered also, namely E28 and E24's, and even tried to but a really lovely manual Opel Monza GSE but before I could commit I ended up in hospital with a ruptured appendix, and the seller had sold it to a dealer by the time I was home and could commit.
Then this came along, and after talking to the seller, I got a good feeling. Every question I asked was answered, and he then sent me dozens of pictures taken after my call, along with a video. It is a 54k mile 1986 model M535i, and I have just arranged to drive it back next week. I have owned a few E28's in my time, so very familiar with them, and have good memories.
    A few pics

Fantastic looking E28 and on original wheels too. They do look great in red. Well done on the purchase. Condition wise it seems excellent and in keeping with the very low miles. Hopefully I will get to see it sometime.

I still have not had an E28, despite all the BMWs I have had. I do have an E28 M5 I am looking after at the moment for a friend. Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

That's dreamy - how did I miss this thread in January. Just wondering about the insurance situation with a car like this - any issues? If I did not already have my E30 I might have one like that but if your ever selling again let me know.

Now you have bought it, I bet a vitesse pops up for sale! (Well that's always what happens me)

Very nice and looks really smart. They have aged very well.

No issues with insurance for me. I guess it depends on your insurer and policy type, but it would I believe qualify for classic cover with most providers of classic policies. I didnt hesitate in buying, but I have bought it without seeing it in person, so there is still the possibilty of it turning out tits! But to be honest I don't have any doubts. It has just been tested, and from experience good cars sell quickly which puts us at a disadvantage for UK cars.

Thats a beaut! I don't know how I didn't see this in January either. The wheels look excellent on it, very rare to see them these days, usually ditched for some form of BBS/waffle type wheel which are nice but not its a treat to see those period correct wheels on.

Its funny how period wheels can sometimes be a really ugly design but put with the correct car just complete the package. There are similar wheels for RX7's and a Mugen (MR5?) wheel for hondas which off the car look ridiculous but put on the correct car they just set it off really well.

Anyway, well wear with it and hope to see more pictures!

Stunning - when I lived in the US in early 90's my boss had one and used to let me drive it. Loved it!! Haven't seen one in a long time. Best of luck with it.

                              Nice!
I always loved the E28. They are from the good age of BMW when they drove, looked and sounded well.
Hope it works out well, but I am sure it will
