Car accessories that have died a death

I was just thinking of all the car accessories that have died a death that used to be big business and all the rage.

- Car seat covers. Oh yeah baby, everyone needed a set of genuine teddy bear skin carseat covers!

- Stearing wheel covers. For that style and feel.

- After market sunroofs. When I started driving, you just had to get a sunroof! All my mates went out and got them. Before I was old enough to drive, most of the older in-crowd on my road had them fitted. I hate sunroofs, so never got one.

- Alarms. Cars could be robbed with a lollipop stick, so you had to get an alarm! Lazer, Cobra, etc. You needed one!

- Car stereos. The stereo that came as standard was just about good enough to listen to static on. So it was always binned. A new head unit and decent speakers for a few 100 quid went in.

My first car had grey teddy bear skin seat covers, steering wheel cover, aftermarket stereo and big speakers and a Lazer alarm and immobilser.

Always remember budgeting 3-4 hundred euro for an alarm and central locking lol my earlier cars where mostly Jdm and as mention you'd get into one if you sneezed on them !
6 x 9 speakers on the parcel shelf were a must for any self respecting boyracer

There was a bit of a craze for speed camera detectors about twenty years ago (though I may unduly influenced by my own experience because I bought one around then - it worked fine for a while, then just stopped working), don't hear of too many people having them these days (though I think that may be for legal reasons.)

Massive sun visor stuck on with maybe the car make or tuning company. Someone had a trd visor on a civic in my home town. For about a week till someone pointed it out

Those electric static grounding straps that everyone used to have hanging down from their rear ends seem to have vanished too.
Guess they were not that great to begin with.

Sat-navs from the likes of Garmin or Tom Tom. I assume everyone just uses a phone holder with Google maps now. The navigation was always terrible on them anyway, and the search function was crap too.

After market steering wheels - pretty much impossible once airbags came in, and even more difficult now that the steering wheel itself is now an interface filled with infotainment and other buttons. If it wasn't for the classic and motorsports market, Momo and the like would be stone dead. A whole generation of drivers will never know the joy of a perfectly crafted thin rimmed wheel and only the chunky fisher price activity centre that are modern OEM wheels.

One old aftermarket trend has recently returned and is fitted to a huge amount of cars including Mercedes and Vag to name but a few ! bloody Fake exhausts trims!

The name won't come to me, but the stickers on the rear window, usually of the make of car, that was split so they fitted in between the heated rear screen lines.

Bumper stickers have just gotten weirder and to be honest, if you see someone with one these days, it tends to be a sign of that person being... well the sort of person you'd back away slowly from if you ran into them in person, and that's before you get into the political/angry ones.

They were never all that common in Ireland, though I understand they are ubiquitious in the States.
