        • I was thinking of going for those new Continentals when I was changing tyres end last year, ended up with the new PS5's instead.

They seem to have come on a lot and get a lot of positive reviews.

I've only heard good things about them. Getting them fitted tomorrow. Not before time too with the weather we are having!

I did but these were getting the better reviews. From the little bit of driving I've done on very cold roads this evening I think I've made the right decision. The grip is incredible and they are not even scrubbed in

                  • Fitted some standard font pressed plates with Volkswagen surrounds from Eire plates. The spacing on these are always spot on, makes for a nice clean look.

Haven't got to drive much on the new tyres but they are massively impressive. The grip is incredible. I was having an intermittent traction control issue that I couldn't get to the bottom of and that has disappeared now. So was all down to having different tyres on the rear. Lesson learned!

Looking forward to some better weather and longer drives now that everything is tip top again.

                    • My planned suspension overhaul got a bit delayed but when I saw Des Goldens in Cork doing a 10% promotion on Kw suspension my interest was peaked.

I ordered a set of Kw Street Comfort V2 coilovers which are being built to order in Germany and have a lead time of 6 weeks. They are supposedly the best compromise between an out and out track coilover and one for use on the road.

I'm really excited about getting these as they should transform the car. At 88k miles the suspension feels like its starting to get tired, so a full refresh is justified.

Top mounts and bearings will also be done at the same time and a proper geo set up to get them dialled in just right.

These aren't cheap but I would consider them reasonable value for a quality brand which is proven in motorsport as well as oem.

                        • How do you get on with telling your insurance company about coilovers? It’s something I would have always liked to fit but didn’t want to open that can of worms!

                          • You don't tell them and take the risk is the general concensus in Ireland.

Yep, I'll look into it more. I've just paid my insurance in full for the year so won't upset the apple cart.

There are a few insurers who will cover mods but generally you need an engineers report and TUV certification for the mods.
