  • MK7 Golf R

I've been working my way up to this one for quite a while. I've watched countless reviews and read all the threads on here.

Before buying the GTD around 18 months ago I was trying to get a GTi, but my budget was not good enough for a decent one. I was also getting married and needed something more sensible for a while than a Fiesta ST. What I really, really wanted was an R. The step up to the GTi wouldn't have been enough and I probably would have ended up modding it.

So after a healthy dose of man maths and a decent trade in on my GTD I finally made a move and bought what is, to me at least, my attainable dream car.

    Spec
1 owner UK car (owned by an elderly gentleman from Sussex)
58k miles, full verified history with one UK dealer
    Limestone Grey Metallic
    Manual
19" Pretoria wheels with good Conti Sport Contact 6 all round
    Pro Navigation upgrade

And of course the fantastic 2.0 TSi with 300ps and 4Motion.

The overall condition of the car can only be described as excellent. I've stopped judging cars on number plates, this could pass for one year old.

Haven't much pics now, will get more in the morning as it's in for NCT. It's a phenomenal car and I'm still pinching myself.

Only plans really are to keep it fed and maintained. It doesn't need more power so I can't see myself tuning.

More on how it drives later..but it's amazing, grip, damping, sound.

One last thing. I did over 300km in it today. It seems fine on petrol too. I'm on course for 600kms on the first tank. For context I used get about 750 in the GTD. The difference is so worth it. Not really noticeably different to my Fiesta ST either.

Well wear Donach, I've never had a good look around one so interested to see it at a C&C some time soon

Very nice, not too loud looking either so an ideal sleeper. Best of luck with it!

Lovely car but can’t call a car with 300bhp standard a sleeper.
Anyone with a slight interest in cars knows these are a quick car

Bang on the button Niall, super cars. I was once following a fellow backroader in one of these in the M3 on some twisty roads. Dropped rapidly. It’s the combination of power delivery and traction capability that make this cars so special. Ideal for our roads.

Well wear Donach, glad you found such a nice example! That mileage is minuscule!

Thanks all. Flew through the test anyway, got a really sound tester, owns a mk7 GTi himself. Got to see it underneath too and it's all straight as expected. Washed it yesteday but it's manky again. Will take better pics over the Christmas.

Brilliant car. I had real trouble following DMZ on near zero temp wet mountain roads in Wales in April last year in the 458, so much so that I nearly binned it (and Motörhead) trying to keep up. Well done.

Thank you, that's high praise indeed. I don't think I'm as competent as DMZ behind the wheel but I'll push it on when I can and it's safe enough to do so.

Its just heading for 60k miles. But still reasonable enough , the car is 5 years old soon but you really wouldn't think it.

That looks brilliant, personally think Limestone grey is the best colour for them, and with pretorias my ideal combo. 600km to a tank sounds pretty impressive for 4motion and the perfomance on tap, one of these or an S3 will be on my radar next.
