So my latest moment of madness came via a well know internet auction website when I placed a speculative bid which turned out to be the winner of this fine automobile. This is no less than my 5th e46, I do have a fondness for them, which also meant I went in knowing the potential pitfalls.
So after winning the auction I booked my flights to Luton and made the trip a couple of weeks back. A 4.5 hour journey to Holyhead gave me plenty of time to get to grips with the pits and troughs of this latest acquisition and thankfully there were more positives than negatives. Engine, suspension, gearbox and brakes all perform perfectly, the heated and electric seats work, radio and Nav work so in general all was good. The only cons being the wheel alignment (already have this sorted), wing mirrors seem to have a mind of their own (still trying to figure this out) and some sagging headliner, again already taken care of.
The body is in very good condition for a 19 year old car, only real negative being a fairly flat finish on the bonnet which had been resprayed to cover some stone chipping. Interior has usual wear and tear on the driver seat bolster and centre armrest but is generally very presentable.
Since getting the car home I have treated it to a two stage polish, changed the oil and all filters, spark plugs and wiper blades. I have completed the initial registration phase by getting it VAT and import duty cleared with the help of Jerry at ClearCar, well worth his relatively small fee. I have presented it for VRT and am currently waiting for revenue to gaze into their crystal ball and come back with a figure, fingers crossed it’s reasonable.
Anyway here are a few pictures which were taken after nearly 6 hours of trying undo 19 years of car wash markings. it is velvet blue with grey leather interior and unusually for a Clubsport was factory order with MV2 wheels rather than the model specific split rim wheels.
