So I was in Dublin yesterday to look at the V2 Panigale they have in stock. Sat on it and it fitted perfectly. Obviously a bit smaller than the S1000 but just ideal for me. The body lean forward angle is not too bad and the peg height is not as severe as the CBR for instance. The quality feel of the bike is just magical but no heated grips?

So I decided to go for it and done a deal on it trading in my 2017 Triumph T120. As you know I have the Triumph Thruxton R also and it was always nagging me that I had two almost identical bikes in my bike fleet - even though the T120 is a very special bike in its own right and I will miss it but I am at my max no of bikes on the one insurance policy according to Carol Nash and I don't really need the hassle of owning 7 bikes anyway.

Collection will probably be the second week of February. I have other pictures of the bike which I will upload later.

The bike had not yet been set up right - no battery or petrol installed etc so I did not take it for a test ride and I am sure even if it was Rosso would not allow it. That sold sign was on the bike already before I done the deal to stop people sitting on it. I love the last pic of it viewed from outside in the showroom.

I see my number is 861 so they are not holding back on production. The second Troy Bayliss edition they were expecting in seems to have got lost in the post so I said id better take this one then before its gone and id probably be waiting months before I could get another.

Love the V2 but dislike the exhaust which i thought they might've fixed on that edition. Looks like an afterthought... Well wear with it and if you get sick of it or find yourself taking the BMW all the time, you can drop it over to me.

Thanks - its the one bike where I think some nice gloss carbon bits might set it off. Especially that front mudguard which I was not too fond of on the standard V2 and I don't think painting it to match the rest of the bike would look good either. Also the exhaust under seat cover but I would be conscious about heat with that bit.

Still all that will have to wait till I get all the upgrades to my Monster done - I am still awaiting my Termi exhaust but that bike is going up on the 5th to have the steering damper and tank bag mount installed. If the weather is any good on that day I might take the opportunity to bring down the V2. ie; ride it down. My trailer is not set up yet to carry bikes and I don't want its first voyage to be carrying a brand new bike.

Congrats, awesome bike.! If you ever feel like joining a group of Italian bike owners, give me a shout. We have a whatsap group where we talk nonsense and meet once per month in Howth for a coffee.

Wow. Since bike AG. Personally I'd go for the less "busy" solid red of the standard model but your special ed is sure to have some tasty upgrades too. Plus you can't really judge from photos. Hope to see and hear it in the metal some day!

Anybody doing paint protection film for motorbikes? I would like to get that done with this bike early in its life and if I am putting on a gloss carbon fiber front mudguard and other bits it will definitely be needed on those.

Well deposit (€1k) paid so no going back now. I just reflected that the Panigale was the bike that was responsible for me getting back into biking in the first place five years ago after an absence of 16 - 17 years. I had been searching for one but thought it might be more prudent to get a bike a bit less radical considering how rusty I obviously was on bikes back then - hence the rather staid but beautiful Triumph T120. Well better late than never I suppose.
The Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary pays tribute to Troy Bayliss' 2001 World Superbike triumph on the Ducati 996R.

Good decision imo, ease your way back in and now you have a 200hp beast. I remember you looking at Fireblades before, did you ever consider this one. I love the old school paint scheme:

No - always found most sports bikes too severe for me - closest I came to getting one before the BMW was a used 2017 Kawasaki ZX10 and of course the 2018 Honda CBR red bull paint scheme Fireblade which I had agreed on but that deal fell through.

The only fireblade I rode briefly was a well used 2010 model and that was pretty extreme from a riding position point of view but that one had probably been modded to make it like that.

The bike does come with a rear saddle and rear pegs separately. I will see how they look. I like to put on the rear saddle if I am travelling any long distance with my usually heavy rucksack which tends to scratch the paint on the rear cowel. Also the rear pegs do offer an extra bit of crash protection just in case as well as a place to hang the tax disc from. I can use my Dunlop streamlined rucksack for the trip down even though its does not hold as much and is a right pain on a long journey because of its lack of compartments but does not come in contact with the rear cowel.

So at last I have got my 221 reg No and all I need to do now is arrange the insurance and wait for a nice day to ride up the Triumph and come down in my new bike. The weather for the foreseeable is not looking good though? I might try and get my new trailer set up to carry at least one bike if there is no break in the weather.
