I had an 8v, was the Audi press car.
Sold it back in Feb and regret it a bit still.
Was actually up for sale again but a few k more than I sold it for.

Agreed. The Golf R is the car of backroads to be fair.

Well wear with the Golf R.

Lots of people assuming that the GolfR is the pinnacle of hot hatch territory. The M140i and M135i arguably are the better specced and better entertainment?

In terms of spec, the Golf wins over the 1/2-series imo. Adaptive cruise standard, Android Auto/CarPlay easy enough to add if not already specced, auto lights/wipers, etc.

I drove an M235i and before driving it, reckoned I'd be taking it home, but found it much too stiff for my liking. It was quite harsh on rough surfaces and felt like a skateboard going over speedbumps. Compared to the GTI I had, it felt like it was on much less sophisticated dampers. It also wasn't as quick as I was expecting it to be, I left disappointed as I was sure I was going to like it from all the reviews I had read and watched. In saying that though, 6-cyl beats 4-cyl any day for character and it did have a lovely purr.

Nope, mine was a 132 Red one.
Put it up on here and Autostadt FB page back in Feb, was sold in 30 mins!
It was on Carzone last week, but gone so I assume sold already.
