While I also have some Akira inspired love for the "new age matrix Yakuza vibe" of the Alphard/Stream/Stepwagon vans I feel I'd get tired of the aesthetics fairly quickly.
That said I would love a Blow Co Dajiban.

If I was doing trans american voyage a 90s full size "conversion" van would be my choice, for all the reasons you stated above but with extra luxefunkvelourdownlighty goodness and max embiggendyness.
