Seriously? Lol. I assumed from the spoiler and other accoutrements that it must have been something with a bit more push. But Ozy is right, it can't be an M3.

Reminds me of the time I was visiting a friend (in the 1990s), he didn't drive, his brother did. I clocked the brother's car in the driveway, a MK3 Fiesta that purported to be an XR2i. He confessed it was actually a humble 1.0 with an XR2i badge that he'd stuck on it. I was driving a MK1 Micra at the time so didn't slag him too much, would have been the pot calling the kettle black.

      • Apparently that 316 from the pic is still on the road today.
Any car that merely takes you from A-B does not go far enough.

Plenty of that craic went on. People went to great lengths to create replicas of performance version of their car. "GTI lookalike" was a common moniker in the pages of Buy & Sell. Usually meant 2 badges, a rubber spoiler from the top shelf of the local motor factors and Hella spot lamps in the grill.

There's probably a whole thread of it's own in our stories for drum-braked "Evo 5" Lancers and the like.

Yeah I seem to recall there were even a few replica F355's floating around. Usually souped-up MR-2's. Why ruin a decent MR-2, they are quite rare these days.

            • Even as a mere 316 that would have still been quite the head turner for anyone around Inchicore back then

              • I’m trying to remember if I ever ventured near that back in the day as my Sunday youth was a visit to Inchicore to my grandparents. Most of the time was spent near the old CIE club though.

Also speaking of tarted up shite, I recall years ago getting home from school and there was a gti in the garden, looked the part but there was also a Rabbit badge, wtf did that mean?? My auld lad was not a car man and only had this for a loan, I waited around all day then to hear this start up and it was a fcuking dieseasel... much to the amusement of my mates, I got serious stick over that, maybe my dieseasel hate started back then 🤣🤣
I’m standing in a field full of sheep, is it wrong that I feel aroused?? 🤨🤪

                • Saw a backroaders old car today on the M50. This car has a great spec, it lived with me briefly some years ago.

                    • Thanks the E39 is mine, drove it up to Belfast for the weekend! Still such a nice car for long distance driving
DadsMorrisMinor advertised it 11pm one night on here earlier this year and I had it bought before midday the next day.

I have to say it drive extremely well and strong for a 525i when I drove it. Glad to hear it went to a good home.

I've a real hankering for a petrol E39 of late. Handsome car.
